State 4A Championship Game at Tom Huffer Sr. Stadium / Chugiak HS 4:00pm
# 1 seed (CIC) Service (9-2) 19, #2 seed (CIC) South Anchorage (9-2) 28 Final, Game Stats, Photo Gallery
State Champions: 1994, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2008, 2011; Runner-up: 2010, 2012.
KEY TO THE GAME: # 1 seed (CIC) Service (9-2) 19
Service Cougars Head Coach: Numi Ilalio. Numi was voted 2012 Cook Inlet Conference Coach of the Year (CIC) and last year as Assistant Coach of the Year. Since then, the team has not missed a beat. Now Numi is grooming another future head coach named William Fomai who was voted Cook Inlet Conference Assistant Coach of the Year.

The Cougars took off just where they left off last season by running a multitude of offensive formations; from the pistol offense with four or five wide outs creating havoc for other teams; to the spread offense and to the jumbo package offense inside the red zone. Then they splash in your traditional power I and pro set formations.

A Numi coached team has respect for their opponent, but he has the instinct to put you away as early as possible and as often as possible. A Numi coached team is always in the attack mode till the game is well in hand.

But the offensive key that makes it run is dual threat Sr. QB/RB Amu Aukusitino. From the LOS he's had 720 yards passing and 596 rushing that led to 21-TD's. He is one of the most elusive player's I've seen in awhile. With him at quarterback, he can extend passing plays with his legs in the pocket to what seems like 10 seconds, which makes it almost impossible to cover receivers. Then there is the threat of him running and breaking containment from the pocket; that's a whole new set of problems in trying to tackle him.

Colleges showing a recruiting interest in Aukusitino are San Diego State, Hawaii, Colorado, University of North Dakota, University of South Dakota and California.

Let's not forget about CJ Toomer, he's just chompin at the bit. Toomer completed 78 of 118 passes for 1,156 yards and 8 touchdowns. And he has run for 292 yards on 70 carries with 4 touchdowns. Then there are his receiving skills, where he has ten receptions for 119 yards and two touchdowns. The other threat to watch will be Sr. WR/DB/KR Kylelle Brown who has 32 receptions for 499 yards and 5 touchdowns.

The Cougars must control South's line backing core led by Sr. Dalton Sauder and Sr. Tommy Hopp. South will come in with the top rated defense for points scored against; [South] 133-points to [Service] 155-points.

Player's 2 Watch - Sr. OL Michael Stubblefield, 6-1/285; Jr. OL/DL Kekoa Fomai, 5-10/225; Sr. RB/DB Mathew Ilalio, 5-8/185; Sr. WR/DB Nik Butler, 6-4/185; Jr. OLB Hiapo McCandless, 5-11/180; Sr. WR/DB Trevor Williamson, 6-1/190; Sr. RB/DB Viliamu Aukusitino, 5-10/180; Sr. Eric Pili, 5-10/290; Jr. QB C.J. Toomer; Sr. WR/KR/DB Kylelle Brown, 5-8/140.

State Champions: 2006, 2012; Runner-up 2011. KEY TO THE GAME: #2 seed (CIC) South Anchorage (9-2) 28 Final, Game Stats, Photo Gallery
South Anchorage Wolverines Head Coach: John Lewis. Last year South Anchorage lost to Service in the championship game 23-37, then lost in this seasons regular match-up 14-21 where Service has a five game winning streak against the Wolverines. This is the game the Wolverines have been drooling for. It will define their season because it's against their arch rival; Service.

Some of the intangibles in South's favor will be the loss suffered in last year's championship game and revenge for the regular season loss this season. Plus the Wolverines have a potent offense that has outscored the Cougars 402-points to 378-points.

The next major key for South is to have a spy or two shadowing Amu Aukusitino on offense wherever he goes, literally. He's electrifying as a runner. So, they must tackle Amu and not let him make big plays.

South likes to get that fly sweep blocking scheme flowin, with Sr. QB Zachary Lujan runnin the same offense for the last eight years who completed 86 of 156 for 1,368 yards, 17 touchdowns and 6 interceptions.

The Wolverines use an abundant of running backs but they have three who are capable of breaking big runs at any time; leading the way is Sr. Dante Williams, 67 carries with 674 yards and 6 touchdowns then Sr. Taylor Faagau, who has 71 carries with 480 yards and 5 touchdowns and Sr. Kahlil Autry with 45 carries with 392 yards and 7 touchdowns. And Autry is dangerous on punt returns and kick-off returns where he has accumulated 554 yards in total returns.

If South is to win this championship game, it's gonna be how well the interior offensive line controls the line of scrimmage and making secondary blocks down the field. They consist of center - Sr. Justin Moore, 6-2/245; guards - Sr. Jaramie Augafa, 5-10/260; Jr. Ryan Wilhelm, 6-1/225; tackles - Sr. Ezera Afualo, 6-1/255 and Jr. John Widmar, 6-5/260.

Player's 2 Watch - Sr. QB Zachary Lujan, 6'1/175; Sr. OL Jaramie Augafa, 5'10/245; Sr. OL Justin Moore, 6-2/235; Sr. TE Louis Page, 6'3/210; Sr. LB/RB Dalton Sauder, 5'11/190; Sr. LB/RB Tommy Hopp, 6'1/190; Sr. DB/RB Dante Williams, 5'8/160; Sr. RB/DB/KR Kahlil Autry, 5'11/180.

Closing Remarks:
A big key to this outcome will be how the teams prepare and deal with the weather. Kick-off is at 4:00pm and the temperature could be in the low 30 degree mark or lower; Burr!!!

First, South must limit the big plays and contain last year's CIC Offensive POY Service QB Amu Aukusitino 5-10/180. Another key will be to reduce his elusive escape ability to get additional yards once he breaks beyond the LOS.

Then when it's all said and done, has South endured enough to end a five game losing streak to Service?
